There were also some 486, Pentium and Pentium 3 pcs in the pile. The Pentiums will probably go on Freecycle.

Also got a stack of SIMMs, ZIP drives and hard disks.

The Apple LCIII NAS – DEAD!!!

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Hard disk has failed in my NAS. Im not happy, luckily i’ve not lost any data as its all backed up!

I don’t have any spare IDE disks to put in it, apart from a 20Gb drive, which isnt enough. But I do have 2 SATA drives spare. Unfortunately, the system board in the NAS does not have a SATA port. I do have a IDE/SATA adapter but its too big to put in the NAS case.

Will need to source a disk…

Apple SE/30 – Long T15 Screwdriver found!

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

I can finally replace the faulty SCSI hard disk in my Apple SE/30. I have found a long reach T15 Torx scredriver. Got it for £1 at my local market. These screwdrivers are quite hard to find. They go for about £4 on eBay.

Will crack open the Apple tonight, and fix it.

Recycling PCs – Don't forget to erase the HDD first!

Friday, August 1st, 2008

I was given a Apricot PC today. I powered it on to make sure it was ok, expecting the machine not to boot into an OS. Boy, was I wrong…

Machine booted into Windows 95, and there were personal files all over the place. Even some porn!

Moral of the story is – when you pass on the machine to someone else. Make sure you remove or securly erase the hard disk first. Who knows what the new owner of your machine could find and use from your PC…. Its a good job im not a malicious person.

This machine has now been erased using Boot and Nuke. http://www.dban.org/
